A personal tribute to three musicians who passed away in 2016 - not musical influences particularly, but they each had a big impact on my life at the time.
lyrics
He was the first to put his arm around another man on Top of the Pops
In the same year that the first Pride Parade was outnumbered bythe cops
And I'd see his face in all the shops
Back when I was ten.
As much a starman on the day he died as he was back then.
He burst onto our TV screens in '85 - Boy George's eveil twin.
Looking both dead and alive - great beauty - trouble deep within
And squeezed into my tightest jeans, I'd be swept up in the sound
Spinning right round like a record, baby
Like a record right round.
We're all witing
Waiting for the day...
I waited hours for his majesty in the pouring prple rain
Till he set the lOndon stage on fire - we'll not see his like again.
The world has less colour now
It's just a sign of the times.
So this New Year I'm gonna party like it's 1999
